Haskell nested pattern matching
These really are nesting rather than "sub-pattern". That is, the pattern matching really proceeds by matching a nested data value. "sub-patterns" in regular expressions are still matching a linear sequence of characters. Here, a nested pattern must actually match a nested data structure, not a linear one. – WebMatching an expression e against a pattern !p is done by first evaluating e (to WHNF) and then matching the result against p . Example: f1 !x = True This definition makes f1 is strict in x, whereas without the bang it would be lazy. Note the following points: Bang patterns can be nested: f2 (!x, y) = [x,y] Here, f2 is strict in x but not in y.

WebOct 25, 2024 · Pattern Matching Enum types can have one of multiple variants. So if a function takes an enum, we need a way to adapt the function’s behavior depending on the variant of data it will encounter. This is done with pattern matching. If variants construct values of a type, pattern matching deconstructs them.
