All other setting being equal, I was under the impression that H.265 would produce a smaller file. All other things being equal, it totally is.

WebDec 28, 2024 · It is supposed to work with h.265... I uninstalled mplayer2, installed mplayer 2:1.1. Installed the 265 codecs: gstreamer0.10-libde265 and gstreamer1.0-libde265. Also installed the one for vlc: vlc-plugin-libde265 Mpv opens the h265 files (also vlc and totem after installing the codecs), but mplayer does not. Any idea why?
