Especially keep an eye underneath the grips since that's where moisture can form and cause rusting. Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better". Webstarpatrick95 • 2 yr. ago. Blued wears faster. Fingerprints show up like chalk on asphalt. Holsters (leather or composite) will remove the blue surprisingly quickly. Stainless will also wear. But much more slowly. And you can’t see the residual gun oil once you’re done cleaning it. I’m serious.

I only use the Lewis Lead Remover for stubborn leading in one of my guns. I would not use the lead remover cloth on my blued ones. Works great on my stainless guns, but I don't want to risk it. All I've ever needed on my blued ones is Hoppe's and a bronze toothbrush.
