WebNov 3, 2016 · 21 points. Hi - if you go to Settings, Contacts, and scroll down, there are two choices: how to sort (by first or last name) and how to view (same.). You can chose to have it sort by last name, but view by first then last. Then close out, wait a bit (not sure why the delay, but the initials didn't change immediately) you should be all set. Select “Short Name” and flip “Short Name” to OFF to display the full name of contacts. Go back to Messages and open an individual thread to see the change. Turning off Short Name will make things look like they did prior to iOS 7.
